Picasso (2nd Assignment ages 11-14+)

I chose The Horse by Picasso to represent me in ages 11-14+. This picture is reminds me of how much my sister is crazy about horse and how I probably got that charactieristic from being around her so much. The picture is in black and white and was probably made from serigraphy (with ink) which makes it look like a painting on paper. The horse reminds me of how free I feel when I'm riding. However, because the horse is in black and white and there looks like a storm in the black sky it reminds me that the world is not perfect.

Picasso (1st Assignment ages 5-10)

I chose Picasso's painting fenne au pigeon to represent me in from age 5-10. When I was younger I would help my Dad race the homing pigeons we have. We still have them, but we don't get the chance to race them as much. The colors in the picture convey an emotion of happiness until you look closely into the sky. To me this could represent how I was so innocent when I was young and yet I still had to grow up and am not that "not a care in the world" girl anymore. In the painting the brushstokes give the painting a kind of misty look. This could stand for how I'll never be that same girl again. I may still love flying pigeons with mt dad, but as the years go by I gain more knowledge of the world and know that it's NOT "perfect."

Vincent Van Gogh (2nd Assignment, ages 11-14+)

I chose one of Vincent Van Gogh’s sunflower paintings to reflect on a time in ages 11-14 and up. I chose this specific painting because it is another one of the paintings I’ve grown up seeing. Because of the vibrant yellow color it reminds me of summer. Then this reminds me of all the fun I have hanging out with my friends, and going swimming, and horseback riding. Also, it reminds me of my volunteer time at VBS and music camp during the summer at my church. Since there are flowers that are wilting in the picture, it reminds me that no one is perfect. The brush strokes that are used in the painting are thick, and wavy. They aren’t “safe” brushstrokes to draw a “perfect” regular sunflower. Also there is a calming blue background behind the vase of sunflowers that make the flowers stand out. All that is included with the brushstrokes and colors convey an emotion of happiness, and joy.

Vincent Van Gogh (1st Assignment, ages 5-10)

I chose Vincent Van Gogh’s painting “Starry Night” because it had been one of my favorite paintings in elementary school and it still is. I would continuously see a replication of the painting in my art classroom. The classroom ceiling had a variety of paintings on it. Some of them were famous replications and others not. During a period in art class, we watched a cartoon version of the story of Vincent Van Gogh’s life. Besides having seen it a lot in school, the painting reminds me of how life used to be all perfect and like a dream to me. The town with the church steeple in the middle reminds me of how perfect and peaceful I viewed the world when I was younger. When you add the exaggerated night sky in, I am able to reflect on the how magical the world would seem to me. I was so carefree and I wished I could stay there forever. The brush strokes in the painting are wavy on some and then thin and thick and are compiled to make a painting that invokes a comfortable feeling and puts you at ease. A lot of blue is used in the painting to depict the night which conveys a feeling of rest. Since mostly everything has stopped at nighttime. Yellow is also used because it was based on the morning when it is still night or dark outside.
